Chelsea damaged by unhappy stars and ‘messy’ upheaval under new ownership, fears Tony Cascarino

Chelsea are fraught with unhappy players and have not got the leadership system in place to fix the club, according to Tony Cascarino.

The former Blues player believes several members of the first-team squad hold the sort of view reportedly held by Timo Werner, that he is unhappy while not playing enough and wants to leave.

The Stamford Bridge directors’ box has also seen an overhaul with Todd Boehly helming the ship after the Boehly-Clearlake takeover, which led to the exits of Bruce Buck, Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia.

He told talkSPORT: “So much uncertainty within that squad. Take Timo Werner, who has made it quite clear he’d like to move on and play elsewhere as he wants more game time ahead of the World Cup.

“That’s littered in Chelsea’s squad, way too many.

“You also have to add in departures at the top end of the club. That doesn’t always affect what happens on the field, but from Bruce Buck to Marina to Petr Cech, there’s too much change at Chelsea.

“It’s becoming a bit messy.”

Thomas Tuchel has admitted his fears of the Blues not being ready for the new season after a 4-0 pre-season defeat to Arsenal in Florida.

Chelsea will travel to Italy this week to round off their summer schedule against Udinese.
