Chelsea could finance deals for Declan Rice and Eden Hazard by sealing two sensational deals

Chelsea have yet to bring any new players to Stamford Bridge this January but have allowed a couple to leave the club.

So far the Blues have loaned Jamie Cumming to MK Dons and sold Lewis Baker to Stoke City.

The outgoings so far are not really notable for the first team. However, if the club are going to make signings this month, the wages they can save on players who haven't quite lived up to their potential could help fund a move for major transfer targets.

According to Spotrac, if the Blues could offload Christian Pulisic it would save just under £18million in wages, with his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring in the summer of 2024.

Meanwhile, if they could get Timo Werner off the books they would save considerably more; around £35million in total on a deal that runs until 2025.

If the west London club could sell both players this month they could save just over £53million in wages alone.

That would go some way to enabling Chelsea to offer deals to the likes of Declan Rice and Eden Hazard as Thomas Tuchel attempts to add more quality and options to his squad.

Rice reportedly earns £62,000-per-week at West Ham United. The England star would command considerably more if he were to leave the east London club, but his wages would be easily absorbed by the Blues' potential outgoings.

Tuchel’s side would also be able to cover the sizeable salary of former Blues star Hazard, who reportedly earns a staggering £20million a year at Real Madrid.

Pulisic has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after an underwhelming spell in west London.

Much was expected when the American joined the club for £58million from Borussia Dortmund, but he’s failed to establish himself in Tuchel’s side and has only scored three goals in 19 appearances this season.

Barcelona are reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Meanwhile Werner has flattered to deceive in much the same way as Pulisic, he arrived with a big reputation from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020, but has only netted 18 goals in 71 games for the Blues.

The German has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Barca this month.

If Chelsea could offload Werner and Pulisic and recruit Rice and Hazard they would be in a far better position to attack the second half of the season on all fronts.
