Chelsea are close to finally securing a defender with a deal reportedly in place for Napoli defender Kalidou Kouliably.
The Blues have been in the market for defensive recruits throughout the current window with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen having departed Stamford Bridge - the pair joining Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. That leaves the west London side with Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta of the senior options that were used by Thomas Tuchel last term.
The Mirror reported last month that new owner Todd Boehly had turned to Koulibaly to solve the problem area in his squad. And The Athletic have now reported that the Blues closing in on a €40million (£33.8m) deal with the centre-back set to pen a ‘long-term’ deal at Stamford Bridge. Koulibaly has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past with Manchester United noted as admirers.
