Chelsea could turn to one of their previous managers in a bid to reduce the strain on their bloated squad. Although things currently look thin due to injuries there remains a backlog of players across the pitch, most notably in the forward line.
Graham Potter has an entire XI of forwards on his books and although they aren't all available to pick from right now, it shows the level of player hoarding that the club have done in recent years. Four of the six January signings have been attackers and when Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling return it will be interesting to see how Potter manages his squad.
The plan is to move on a host of the underperforming players including Hakim Ziyech, Pulisic himself, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku and even Kai Havertz if the right offer materialised. There is also no certainty that Callum Hudsson-Odoi, Joao Felix or David Datro Fofana remain Blues players permanently next season.

It is quite the task for the new recruitment team and Todd Boehly but will be just as important as finding any new incomings too. The wage bill is too high, there are too many players to consider during training and looking ahead pre-season too. There could be a simple way out though.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton are looking to bring in one of those players, Ziyech. The Moroccan has been a regular in recent weeks mainly due to the injuries in the team, but he has nevertheless shown quality. Having starred at the World Cup for his country he is playing with more confidence than his teammates in attack.
Ziyech is admired by many clubs across Europe, including Roma, AC Milan, Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester United but his suitability to different teams as well as his high wages have made moves hard to push through.
If Frank Lampard and Everton are willing to pay the price for Ziyech and take a risk on him, then it may well do his former employers just as much good as it does his current side. The Toffees have previously looked into signing Conor Gallagher, Broja and Hudson-Odoi. They could only take one player on loan this winter, though Hudson-Odoi is already out temporarily so isn't available, Broja is injured and Gallagher is unlikely to leave.
However, heading into the summer there may be a way for both clubs to work together, Everton trying to get high quality players and Chelsea attempting to offload them.
