Chelsea can unlock huge advantage in 'next Erling Haaland' transfer race with Todd Boehly plan

Chelsea could soon unlock a huge advantage in the race to sign the next Erling Haaland amid Todd Boehly's mission to appoint a sporting director. The American billionaire is in the market for a specialists to bolster to bolster the Blues' scouting network, with Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos and former Liverpool director Michael Edwards both already heavily linked to a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Evening Standard, the west Londoners are in talks with RB Salzburg executive Christoph Freund for the vacant transfer chief role. Chelsea are still yet to have filled the position since Michael Emenalo parted ways with the club in 2017; Marina Granovskaia, who left her position at Stamford Bridge as a director this summer, managed negotiations oppose to leading talent identification.

The reports states that Freund, who 'discovered Erling Haaland', would oversee a potential network of clubs, with Boehly looking to copy the Red Bull and City Group model under the Chelsea brand. Speaking at the SALT Conference in New York on Tuesday, the LA Dodgers owner discussed his vision for the Blues as he looks to move away from the club’s infamous use of loanees.

"We’ve talked about having a multi-club model," Boehly said. "I think there’s different countries where there’s advantages to having a club. Red Bull have Salzburg and Leipzig in the Champions League. I want to continue building out the footprint. I think there’s different countries where there’s advantages to having a club.

"We know people and human capital. We understand game plans and strategies. We’re not expecting to be the football experts to find the best talent, we are going to put those people in place.

"The challenge that Chelsea has, when you have 18, 19, 20-year-old superstars, you can loan them out to clubs, but you put their development in someone else’s hands.

"Our goal is to make sure we can show pathways for our young superstars to get onto the Chelsea pitch while getting them real game time. The way to do that is through another club in a really competitive league in Europe."

It has since been revealed by the Daily Mail that Boehly has held talks with super agent Jorge Mendes over the prospect of buying a Portuguese team in the summer. Liga Nos is known to have developed some of the world's most exciting young talent, and it would be the perfect destination for any Brazilian prospects that may be in the pipeline.
