Chelsea can complete Todd Boehly's dream transfer with £100m Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham reunion

Just like the future of Chelsea and Tottenham's next permanent managers, Harry Kane's career is uncertain and unknown. The 29-year-old has had another impressive individual season, scoring more than 20 league goals for the sixth season.

He has become Tottenham's all-time top scorer and entered into the Premier League 200 club. Without the Englishman's goals, there wouldn't be much difference between Chelsea and Spurs in the league, such has been his impact.

As it has felt for eternity, Kane's contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is also due to expire in just over 12 months as a final ultimatum awaits. He is still a massively valuable asset for the club but realistically may only have one big deal left in him.

Whether that is at Tottenham or elsewhere is one of the big questions heading into the summer. Tottenham could lose him for free if nothing is agreed, but it would also be a massive blow to attracting a new top-level coach if they were to sell him this season, even for a reported cost of over £100m.

For Kane, he needs to be convinced by where Tottenham are going as he seeks the first major trophy of his career as well as the coveted 260-goal mark in England set by Alan Shearer. Luckily enough for him, there are options. A host of clubs wish to sign a striker over the summer and there aren't enough names to go around.

Victor Osimhen is one that will be competed for by Manchester United, Arsenal and other top sides. Kane could be another if he doesn't commit himself to north London. That opens up the chance for Chelsea to swoop in. Although the Blues don't have the lure of Champions League football, there's a chance Spurs won't either after they fell out of the top four.

Kane also isn't sure who he could be managed by at Spurs next season either. The same, for now, can be said for Chelsea but as Mauricio Pochettino becomes the new leading candidate to take over it raises an interesting proposition. Kane scored more goals (169) under the Argentine than he did for any other coach in his career so far.

At a rate of one goal ever 115 minutes in all competitions it is also his best ratio under any boss to have managed him at club level for more than 15 games. That also includes the early stages of Kane's time as a prominent world star. The prospect of having both Pochettino and Kane at Chelsea is a tantalising one for Blues fans.

Even before the former Spurs boss was linked with the SW6 vacancy it was a move that many could see happening. In a column for CaughtOffside, former Liverpool midfielder Stan Collymore wrote: "The situation at Spurs is giving Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave in the summer. He’s never had an easier way out. Seriously, who is honestly going to begrudge him a move elsewhere now?

"That man has done just about everything he can for Spurs but now, at the age of 29, soon to be 30, this summer is going to be possibly his last opportunity to move on and go to a club that stands a real chance of winning some major silverware. Whether that is Chelsea or Manchester United, who knows, but I guarantee that they’ll both be in the running for Kane come the summer window.

"If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro. The fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career."

Elsewhere ex-Chelsea winger Florent Malouda told DAZN Bet why he's a better pick for the Blues than Manchester United. "Chelsea should definitely join the race for Harry Kane," he said.

"Kane is a world-class player who knows the Premier League, and it is an era where Chelsea need a striker with his goalscoring record and the ambition to win trophies. If Kane ever leaves Tottenham, it will be because of the lack of trophies.

"Kane would be a great signing, but I’d be surprised if he left Tottenham for Chelsea because of the rivalry. It’s not like leaving Tottenham for Arsenal, but to leave Tottenham for Chelsea, I’d be surprised but anything is possible.

"He’s a great option for any club in the Premier League, and for Chelsea he’d be a great pick."

Thierry Henry, a man who knew a thing or two about scoring goals and winning trophies, has also agreed that he should be looking to move on. "If I was him I would go. It’s up for him to choose where but I would go, he has to know where he wants to go. A player like that, a player of his calibre, should not talk about just his goals at the end of his career.

"If I was him, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if all I could talk about is my goals. Listen, it’s a great achievement and I have massive respect for him - I think he’s outstanding. But if that’s the only thing you can bring to the table at the end of your career, that’s tough for me."

Finally, speaking to Betfred, Glen Johnson is the latest to see a move to west London in the future being on the cards. "I think pretty much any team would benefit from signing him. Who needs him most right now? Probably Chelsea.

"Making a move from Tottenham to Chelsea is a big call but I can't really see him ending up there if I’m being honest. Let’s face it, if he stays at Tottenham then he’s not winning anything and it would be a shame for a player of his ability to have a career where he doesn’t win anything.

"He’s a legend at Tottenham, so would he want to ruin his status by moving to another team in London? I’m not sure. It would probably be easier for him to move to a club outside of London."

Although on the face of it this seems a long way off, appointing Pochettino would surely do Chelsea no harm in their bid to find the next answer to their goalscoring problems.
