Chelsea and Tottenham handed fresh twist in goalkeeper transfer hunt ahead of summer window

Chelsea and Tottenham are among a host of sides that appear to be in the race to sign a new first-team goalkeeper this summer transfer window. It comes as the two London sides face uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of their shot-stopping department.

For the Blues, they have both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga in that area, who have had inconsistent patches throughout their careers at the club. The pair are approaching the end of their contracts though, meaning one or both of them could end up leaving in the short-term.

As for Spurs, they find themselves looking at a long-term successor to club captain Hugo Lloris, who has been a fantastic servant to the club in his long spell there. The Frenchman's form has been slightly concerning this season though, with the 36-year-old currently out of action with an injury.

football.london understands that some of the names on Tottenham's shortlist include Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, Brentford's David Raya, Brighton stopper Robert Sanchez and AC Milan's Mike Maignan. However, another name that has been included in links for both Spurs and Chelsea is Everton's Jordan Pickford.

The England international was nearing the end of his contract at Goodison Park and may have eyed a potential switch as so many big clubs needed a shot-stopper. However, in a blow to those sides eyeing a transfer, the European Championship finalist has signed a new deal with Everton.

The contract will run until 2027, meaning that another potential target is wiped off of the transfer market for this summer. It means both Chelsea and Tottenham may have to look at their other targets when it comes to finding a new glovesman in the upcoming window.
