Chelsea and Tottenham have discovered their fate in the round of 16 for the Champions League after both sides confirmed top spot in their group. The Blues managed to do so with one game to spare, turning around a tough situation that saw them take just one point from their opening two games.
As for Spurs, it was pure drama as they were denied passage in their penultimate game against Sporting as an injury time winner was chalked off by VAR. It led them to Marseille where a draw would be enough, however a 95th minute winner from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg granted them top.
Monday saw both team's next opponent revealed, as Chelsea were drawn against German side Borussia Dortmund while Tottenham have a tie with Italian champions AC Milan, who were beaten home and away by Graham Potter's Blues in the group stages. However, with that also came the confirmation of the dates for each game, which has thrown further chaos into the fixture schedule.

The Blues are set to have their first leg away from home on Wednesday, February 15 2023 with the second leg at home on Tuesday, March 7 2023. The Lilywhites are playing on the same week, with their away leg in Milan on February 14 2023 and their home return leg on March 8 2023.
The reason this causes some problems for both is due to the rescheduling of both Chelsea against Liverpool and Tottenham against Manchester City. The two games were postponed following the death of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, but with all four teams involved in the Champions League, it remains tough to create space for their rescheduling.
It could have been avoided, should each team play on the same week as each other for the clash, however the round of 16 are split in two and the legs are played on alternating weeks. While Tottenham and Chelsea play in the same week, Liverpool and Man City play in the other, leaving question marks over when the fixtures will be played.
