Chelsea have agreed a deal worth up to £54m with Wolves to sign Pedro Neto and are closing in on the signing of striker Samu Omorodion from Atlético Madrid.

The Portugal forward is expected to have his medical in the next 24 hours after Chelsea’s bid worth an initial £51m plus add-ons was accepted by Wolves on Friday. Enzo Maresca’s side have a longstanding interest in Neto and Chelsea decided to act on one of their principal targets after missing out earlier in the summer on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich instead.

Neto, who was sidelined for much of the last campaign with hamstring and knee injuries, has also been targeted by Tottenham this summer after some impressive performances for Wolves since he joined from Braga in 2019. The 24-year-old scored three goals and provided 11 assists last season despite only making 20 appearances in total. He now looks set to become Chelsea’s ninth summer signing after the arrivals of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jörgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Omorodion – a 20-year-old who is part of Spain’s squad at the Olympics – also looks set to bolster Maresca’s squad after a deal worth £34.5m was agreed with Atlético. He is expected to complete his medical in the coming days, with the midfielder Conor Gallagher set to move in the opposite direction in a £36m transfer.

Chelsea are also expecting offers for Trevoh Chalobah after the defender was made available for transfer. Crystal Palace are understood to be among the clubs interested in the 25-year-old as a potential replacement if Marc Guéhi joins Newcastle.
