Check out these highlights from Joe Mazzulla’s college days

Long before he became the head coach of the Boston Celtics, Joe Mazzulla was a plucky, overachieving guard for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Twice Mazzulla helped lead WVU to surprising March Madness upsets during his collegiate career, including an eventual trip to the Final Four in 2010.

During his sophomore season in 2008, Mazzulla’s and the No. 7 seed Mountaineers overcame the No. 2 seed in the second round of that year’s tournament, the Duke Blue Devils. A few seasons later as the WVU captain, Mazzulla scored a then-career high 17 points in the Elite Eight to upset John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Mazzulla was instrumental in the victory. You can revisit Mazzulla’s best plays from that 2010-11 season over on YouTube.
