Cheapest supermarket for Christmas shopping named and it's not Aldi or Lidl

The cheapest supermarket for Christmas shopping has been revealed, and it’s not Aldi or Lidl.

Christmas is just around the corner and many supermarkets offer a range of competitive deals and discounts in the run up to the big day, but one has been named cheapest of all.

Budget friendly favourite Aldi was recently named the cheapest supermarket in the UK in a study by Which?, but another has claimed the title for being easiest on the purse strings during the festive period.

According to a new study, Asda beat Aldi to be crowned the cheapest supermarket this month for Christmas dinner staples. Raisin UK compared leading UK supermarkets Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Iceland, M&S and Waitrose, to see just how much it will cost to feed four people, with all the trimmings, on Christmas day.

In the study, Asda’s full Christmas dinner only cost £20.89, with shoppers able to take advantage of its Just Essentials range to save on popular products like stuffing and gravy. Aldi was the next cheapest supermarket, with a festive shop coming in at £20.91 - just a few pennies between the top two retailers.

Aldi also offers the cheapest small whole turkey, priced at £13.49. On the opposite end of the scale, the most expensive supermarket was Waitrose, with a Christmas shop costing £35.15.

This is 68% - or £14.26 - more expensive than Asda on like-for-like products. You can find your nearest Asda store here, and your nearest Aldi store here.
