The price of oil has soared overnight after Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to enter Ukraine. A barrel of crude oil is now at the seven-year high of £71.91.
This, of course, will have knock-on effects for UK consumers. Although we import less of our fuel from Russia than some countries do, it is still the world's second-largest exporter of oil and the largest exporter of gas, and any disruptions to the supply to the rest of the world will send prices further upwards.
As of yesterday, February 21, the UK's average price for a litre of unleaded petrol was 149.03p - that's up over 1.5p per litre on just a couple of weeks ago. The average price of diesel, meanwhile, is 152.51p per litre, according to the RAC.
