The school holiday season has arrived, and many families will believe the opportunity of getting overseas this summer may have passed them by. However, for those who can’t resist the temptation of flying to some magnificent locations, there may still be something here for you.
Whether it’s all-inclusive, bed and breakfast or room only, you may be surprised at the choice available in many of the most popular tourism countries. We found some of our favourite resorts with rooms and flights still available for families over the next few weeks.
A search on a selection of travel company’s websites, most notably Love Holidays, for a week-long break for a family of four (two adults, two children) from Manchester Airport revealed a surprising amount of bargain deals still being offered. Here is just a snippet of what was found.
Cheap family holiday to Spain
Spain is unsurprisingly the prime destination for Brits, be it families or otherwise. Found in Costa Brava is Santa Susanna Resort Hotel which represents one of the cheapest options this summer, with the price being £350 per person, including Ryanair flights, if you depart on August 31.
Just a 15 minute walk from the beach, and even less to the tourist part of town, the resort is ideal for families. It comes with two swimming pools, a buffet restaurant and a playroom to keep the kids entertained for hours.
Cheap family holiday to Greece
The multitude of Greek islands represents another popular spot for British holidaymakers, often offering a picturesque setting to your much-needed break. As advertised on the TUI website, Hippocampus Hotel in Rhodes is priced at £323 per person, from August 17, for the room only, with the price rising should you opt to go half-board.
This is a great hotel for foodies, as it comes with a highly-rated taverna which serves many traditional Greek delicacies. With the sand-and-shingle beach just a stone’s throw away, and Mediaeval Rhodes Town slightly further adrift, there’s plenty to see and do to keep the whole family amused.
Cheap family holiday to Bulgaria
One which may not immediately spring to mind is a holiday to Bulgaria in Eastern Europe. Departing to Bourgas on August 1, and returning on August 9, the price of a stay at Bora Bora Hotel in the northern end of Sunny Beach comes to just under £359 per person.
Situated in a quieter part of the lively resort, this bed and breakfast is close to the seafront which is scattered with plenty of loungers for hire. There are also regular and cheap buses to the centre of Sunny Beach, the nearby ancient town of Nessebar and the Action Aquapark waterpark.
Cheap family holiday to Turkey
Another excellent all-inclusive offering is Ramada Resort By Wyndham Side in the Turkish coastal city of Side. Rated four stars on Tripadvisor, from over 1,500 reviews, this can be snapped up for £539 per person if you depart at the end of August, flying with Jet2 outbound and easyJet inbound.
Just steps away from its own private beach, it represents a great destination for families as it boasts a huge outdoor pool with accompanying waterslides. The main buffet-style restaurant serves a range of traditional Ottoman and international dishes, in addition to two a la carte eateries - with Turkish and Italian cuisine respectively.
Cheap return flights from Manchester Airport
The accommodation can be booked separately from the flights, which ends up being more cost-effective for many parts of the world. Many countries can be ticked off the bucket-list by booking the flights before arranging everything else.
Inevitably European locations are the cheapest, with the Skyscanner website outlining return flights to Brussels, Belgium, starting from just £20, Eindhoven, Netherlands, from £31 and Bordeaux, France from £54. Madeira in Portugal can be visited via a return flight of £66 while Milan in Italy comes in at the cheaper £56.
Outside of Europe, Mancunians can make the trip across the Atlantic to make a potentially once-in-a-lifetime visit to America. Although all flights require a stop en-route, return flights to Boston start from £415, to New York from £452 and to Philadelphia from £490.
In the instance of booking a city break in two halves, you are recommended to pay for the holiday with a credit card. This is because, under the terms of the Consumer Credit Act, most purchases made with a credit card benefit from enhanced purchase protection.
