Howie Roseman is keeping himself busy.
The Philadelphia Eagles have completed a trade with the New Orleans Saints for defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, adding another talented athlete to their secondary.
Gardner-Johnson was primarily a slot cornerback down in New Orleans, but came out of college — and began his career in the NFL — as a safety. With Darius Slay and James Bradberry in the fold as boundary cornerbacks, with Avonte Maddox as their slot defender, the Eagles are looking for Gardner-Johnson to return to his safety roots:

The trade came moments after the Eagles released veteran safety Anthony Harris. On Monday, Philadelphia released another safety, Jaquiski Tartt.

As noted, Gardner-Johnson started as a safety in the NFL, before moving to cornerback on a gradual basis. He saw virtually all of his 2021 snaps as a cornerback last season, with the bulk of those either in the slot or along the boundary. He recorded eight pass breakups, and three interceptions.
During preseason action, he played exclusively at cornerback. In Philadelphia, however, he will be a bit deeper downfield.
