Chaser told to 'hang his head in shame' after 'overthinking' answer

Chaser Paul Sinha surprised fans as he gave an unlikely answer in tonight's episode of ITV's The Chase.

Four more hopeful players went head to head with the Sinnerman in a hope to win a cash prize.

Jamie, a solicitor, Jennifer, a retired nurse and Peter, an academic support tutor, all made it to the final chase - with one lonely contestant, student Caitlin going home with nothing.

Peter went head to head with the chaser and tried to bring back £67,000 to his team.

Host Bradley Walsh asked: "According to Guinness World Records, how many puppies were born in the largest single litter?"

The answers provided were 14, 24 or 101.

The 101 was in reference to Disney's fictional 101 Dalmatians movie which most fans thought the Chaser would have known.

The Chaser said: "Oh I don't know" as he slowly locked in his guess.

Paul's answer was revealed as 101 and the contestants laughed before Bradley asked: "What happened there?"

He simply replied: "Overthought."

Fans couldn't help but be disappointed in the Chaser, who normally plays an excellent game, as they took to Twitter.

Cheryl said: "@paulsinha hang your head in shame #TheChase"

Tee said: "101??!!! What sort of dog was that? Dear Mr Paul #TheChase"

Lyra said: "Not Paul with the 101 #TheChase."

The team went on to secure a grand prize total of £75,000 to play for in the final round.

However, chaser Paul later redeemed himself as he beat the team of three with 16 seconds remaining, sending them all home empty handed.

He complimented them as he said: "You're a really good team - well played."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
