Charlie Patino returns, Nuno Tavares' Champions League worry as Arsenal wonderkid suffers injury

Arsenal supporters' fix of midweek football has come in the form of this season's loan army amid the Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven being postponed.

So whilst Gunners fans will have had to wait 10 days in between fixtures by the time Mikel Arteta's side return to action on Sunday afternoon against Brentford following their 2-1 win over FC Zurich last Thursday, they could have used the break to keep an eye on the players spending the campaign away from the club.

It was a busy summer transfer window for Arsenal with Arteta and technical director Edu overseeing plenty of permanent incomings and outgoings in addition to letting as many as 24 players head out on loan to either aid their development or secure regular first-team football.

With many plying their trade at teams in the UK - albeit temporarily - it meant the return of a full EFL schedule - after football in England and Scotland was suspended across all levels as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away on September 8 - we kept an eye on the Gunners players in action to see how they fared.

Tyreece John-Jules was a second-half substitute for League One leaders Ipswich Town as they beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 at Portman Road, the striker received a yellow card with four minutes to go and came close to getting on the scoresheet with a header that flashed wide late on.

In League Two, Arthur Okonkwo was beaten by a Josh Umerah penalty as Crewe Alexandra left it late to rescue a point away at Hartlepool and Mazeed Ogungbo came on in the 81st minute to help Crawley Town see out a 3-2 win over Stockport to earn their first three-point haul of the new season.

Another Arsenal youngster was involved in a five-goal thriller on Tuesday night with Tim Akinola seemingly proving to be a lucky charm for Chesterfield. Introduced to proceedings on the hour mark with the side trailing 2-1 against Southend United and down to 10-men, he helped complete a stunning turnaround to ensure The Spireites stay top of the National League table.

There was also good news for young goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri as he kept a clean sheet for Chelmsford against Oxford City.

In the Championship, Auston Trusty helped Birmingham come out on top in the derby against West Brom, but there was a mini-Arsenal reunion elsewhere on Wednesday evening in the Rotherham United vs Blackpool clash as Charlie Patino made his return from injury for the latter.

Getting the final 24 minutes under his belt was certainly the one positive the midfielder can take from the game as his side were beaten 3-0 but it wasn't necessarily all good news for Brooke Norton-Cuffy despite the result as the talented right-back sustained a hamstring injury and may have done even more damage to it.

"Brooke Norton-Cuffy was going down the tunnel after coming off. Then the second goal went in, he heard the roar and he came sprinting back out onto the touchline," Rotherham manager Paul Warne revealed afterwards, as per the Rotherham Advertiser. "I don’t think he’s done his hammy any good!"

Outside of the UK and Nuno Tavares had a game to forget as his Marseille side slumped to a 1-0 home defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday night which means they are bottom of their Champions League group after two games with a double-header against leaders Sporting Lisbon on the horizon.
