As Arsenal fans are collectively dreaming of a first Premier League title in almost 20 years, a number of club legends have come together for a video to pray that Mikel Arteta’s side DON’T make it over the line…but all is not as it seems!
The video, released by online bookmaker Paddy Power, sees a number of Gooner icons, including Charlie Nicholas and Ray Parlour, all profess their hope that Arsenal let slip their six point lead at the Premier League summit, for the same hilarious reason. Nicholas begins the video “I can’t believe I’m about to confess to this on camera” before some sombre music takes hold with Parlour, Nigel Winterburn and Kevin Campbell all talking about the seemingly eternal wait they've endured for another title.
Former Soccer Saturday pundit Nicholas then continues: “It can’t happen, I’m sorry, but Arsenal winning the title this season, it can’t happen - Piers f******* Morgan” Three-time Premier League winner with Arsenal, Ray Parlour then chimes in: “I’d rather Arsenal never win another trophy than to see Piers Morgan happy and smiling. I actually feel sick just thinking about it”, Nicholas says before calling for a bucket and violently vomiting into it.
In a rare sign of magnanimity earlier this season, Piers admitted he’d been wrong about the Spanish hotshot and said, “I lie on the floor and beg forgiveness” for his previous views on Arteta, but this hasn't been enough to win over this group of ex-players.
The video's already racked up more than 4.6k views on Facebook and Rachael Kane, of Paddy Power, said: “Arsenal have been so impressive this season, not even the Kim Kardashian curse couldn’t stop them. But there’s bigger things on the line here if Arsenal manage to pull this off. We could be looking down the barrel of a tsunami of smugness from their most loathed fan, Piers Morgan. The thought is too much for some to stomach…particularly Charlie Nicholas as it turns out.”
