Charlie Goode has returned to Brentford midway through his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.
Wigan are unsure whether Goode will play for them again before the end of his six-month loan, with the 28-year-old defender having returned to his parent club for “personal reasons”.
Goode is out of contract this summer and Brentford, who visit Luton Town on Saturday, have no plans to trigger the one-year extension clause in his current deal.
He has made 13 appearances for Wigan in League One this season, even captaining the Latics against Fleetwood in February, but he is now back in the capital.
Wigan manager Shaun Maloney said: “Charlie is not in contention at the moment; he’s gone back to Brentford.
“It’s a personal reason, we’ll see what happens.”
Asked whether Goode will feature for Wigan again this term, Maloney replied: “Maybe.”
Goode joined Brentford for just over £1million in 2020 when the Bees were still in the Championship but illness and injuries have limited him to just 20 appearances in more than three years at the club.
Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United lifted Brentford up to 15th, seven places above the relegation zone.
