It’s fair to say Charlie Cresswell has made quite an impression during his loan spell with Millwall. The Leeds United loanee joined the south London club over the summer in a bid to get some much-needed game time under his belt and it already seems as though he is a favourite at the Den.
Cresswell has made six Championship appearances for the Lions in total, making himself at home in the backline alongside the senior heads of Jake Cooper and Shaun Hutchinson. But, he’s developing quite the reputation at the other end of the field, with three goals coming in Millwall blue this season so far.
The centre-back is currently the club’s top marksmen, outscoring the likes of Benik Afobe, Tyler Burey and Tom Bradshaw, who are expected to bag the goals needed to help Gary Rowett’s side compete at the top end of the division. Cresswell’s latest effort came on Saturday in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

Cresswell actually started the game on the bench, but was called upon at the start of the second half due to injury and 15 minutes after entering the fray, he was nodding Millwall into the lead. The Leeds man turned provider later in the game, too, assisting Afobe to help see off Steve Morison’s Bluebirds.
Of course, Cresswell’s main objective is to prevent goals, as a defender, but the impact he made as a substitute on Saturday saw him come in for praise after the game as midfielder Billy Mitchell hailed his contribution.
“We see what he can do,” Mitchell said, as per News at Den. “I think he took everyone by surprise in the first home game of the season by grabbing two, and he’s done the same thing again today.
“I think that’s what Cressy brings: aggression aerially and in both boxes. I’m pleased for him.”
Cresswell will spend the rest of the season on loan with Millwall, alongside fellow Leeds youngster Jamie Shackleton, who has made eight league appearances under Rowett so far.
