Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 1 is now streaming on Disney Plus, and the ending of the season premiere sets up an interesting dynamic between Matt Murdock and one of his arch-enemies, which star Charlie Cox says will lead to big things in the rest of the season.
Before we continue, be forewarned we'll be getting into some Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 1 spoilers, so turn back now if you haven't watched it yet.
In the final scene of the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Matt Murdock is unexpectedly saved from being executed at the hands of the anti-vigilante task force by Bullseye, who kills the AVTF officers from off screen, leaving behind only a knife that has "you're welcome" scrawled on the blade for DD to find.
According to star Charlie Cox, that scene is setting up some big moments for Daredevil and Bullseye, with serious ramifications for the rest of the season.
"It's a really complicated relationship," Cox tells EW of what's coming up with Bullseye. "Wilson's character this season is very confronting to Matt, who he is and what he represents and what he seems to be trying to do makes it much, much harder for Matt to out-and-out loathe him and hate him. That's a real testament to Dario [Scardapane, showrunner] and the writers for making the Bullseye character go down a path that is so unexpected. And it leads to some very, I think, interesting conversations and very unexpected revelations about both of those people."
Bullseye is one of Daredevil's worst enemies in comics, constantly trying to assassinate Matt Murdock while killing and maiming his loved ones. This key scene in Born Again season 2 episode 1 could be pointing to a very different relationship between Matt and Bullseye.
