Charlie Condon reaches agreement on historic MLB draft contract

Former Georgia Bulldogs star third baseman Charlie Condon has agreed to sign a bonus worth $9.25 million, which is the largest draft bonus (tied) in MLB history. Condon fell to the Colorado Rockies in the MLB draft. Colorado selected him with the third pick in the 2024 MLB draft.

Part of the reason on Condon’s fall in the draft may have been because of his contract. The draft’s No. 1 pick, Travis Bazzana signed for a $8.95 million bonus, which is well below the No. 1 pick’s $10.57 million bonus slot value. The second pick of the draft, Chase Burns signed a $9.25 million bonus as well.

Condon was widely considered the best prospect entering the draft, so him dropping to the No. 3 pick was a bit surprising. However, the Cleveland Guardians elected to pinch pennies with the top pick.

The Colorado Rockies have one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball, so Condon will have an opportunity to put up big numbers for Colorado. Condon is the power hitter that the Rockies desperately need.

Charlie Condon is Georgia’s single-season and all-time home run leader. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound third baseman just finished the best power hitting season in Georgia baseball history. He batted a remarkable .433 (No. 1 in the country) with 37 home runs, 57 walks, and 78 RBIs. Condon is a huge reason why Georgia hosted a super regional this year.

Condon earned numerous honors for his 2024 season including winning the Golden Spikes Award and the Howser Trophy.
