Charlie Bird thanks public after charity climb reaches 'staggering' milestone of over €3 million

Charlie Bird has been left blown away by the support of the public after his charity climb reached yet another massive milestone

Climb with Charlie has now reached over three and a quarter million euro, after people came in their droves to follow the veteran broadcaster up Croagh Patrick.

Charlie also revealed that RTE have filmed a documentary about his life which will be on air next Monday night.

He thanked people at home in a touching video while holding his beloved dog Tiger.

He said: "At the end of this month we will be winding down this phase of Climb with Charlie. Thanks to every one of you out there all across Ireland and abroad, we will be presenting a cheque to each of the two charities for one and a half million each.

"People keep telling me that I'm an inspiration. I'm not. People out there, and I mean this were the real inspiration. Together we did something incredible.

"I have promised that while I am still around, I will continue to extend the hand of friendship. All of you out there have helped me so much. I cannot think you all enough."

Fans congratulated Charlie on the impressive milestone.

One person said: "That's an amazing amount of money, well done to all involved. Can't wait to see the programme. You have done some fantastic things Charlie, it should be brilliant. Hope you're feeling well Charlie."

Another wrote: "Lovely to hear from you Charlie, I hope you are keeping well. Can't wait for the documentary. Had the pleasure of being on the mountain with you that day, it was a joy to behold!"

A third commented: "Top man Charlie! I'll set a reminder. #MustSeeTV."
