Charlie Bird 'overjoyed' as Bono pens special song for Climb With Charlie campaign

Charlie Bird is 'overjoyed' as Bono prepares to release a special song for the Climb With Charlie campaign.

The song, titled Crazy Mountain, will be debuted on the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio 1 tomorrow morning.

It will then be released next week on Climb With Charlie social media channels for all to enjoy.

As part of the broadcast, listeners will hear Charlie’s new cloned voice as he introduces the song himself.

Veteran broadcaster Charlie said: "This is an outstanding gesture. I am overjoyed and could not believe the message that I received from Bono.

"He has been hugely supportive of the Climb With Charlie campaign which aims to raise funds for two amazing charities, the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta."

He added: "I want to encourage everyone to log on to climbwithcharlie.ie and donate what they can or set up their own fundraisers to climb in their local area, be it climbing a set of stairs or a short walk around the house, around a local park, a walk to the beach.

"Climb With Charlie is a nationwide initiative to recognise the huge physical and emotional mountains so many of us have to climb in our daily lives."

Charlie first met Bono in Washington DC when Bono was involved in a series of humanitarian visits to the US government. Charlie was RTE’s Washington Correspondent at the time.

Climb With Charlie will take place on Saturday, April 2 when Charlie will ascend Croagh Patrick to raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.

Because of Covid, the event cannot facilitate large numbers at the one location, so Charlie is encouraging people around the country to complete their own climb or walk in their local area.
