Charlie Bird leads tributes to Cork mum who died during Climb With Charlie Galtymore fundraiser

Charlie Bird is among those paying tribute to a Cork mother who died while taking part in a Climb With Charlie event with her children.

Cora O'Grady, of Mitchelstown in Cork, was on her way down from the Galtymore mountains when she suddenly became unwell.

The Irish Community Air Ambulance attended at the scene. Paramedics battled to save her, but the mother-of-two was declared dead at the scene at 2pm.

The shocking incident happened near the summit of Galtymore at around 1pm on Saturday — with tributes pouring in for the “amazing, kind hearted” mother over the weekend.

Ex-RTE chief news correspondent Bird added to those tributes on Monday morning, writing "I want to offer my condolences this morning to the family and friends of Cora O Grady from Mitchelstown in County Cork. Her family and friends are in my prayers."

Others took to social media after the sad incident to pay their own tributes to Cora.

"What a beautiful lady, so sad, a fantastic solo mother, her kids were her life,” one friend posted on social media yesterday. "An amazing kind hearted lady, always full of life and fun with the biggest smile always on her face.

"A fantastic neighbour and we will all miss you so very much,” they added.

And another heartbroken friend wrote: “The saddest, most devastating news. Rest in peace my friend and give your two beautiful children the strength and courage they will need to go on without you. They were your world and you were theirs.”

Cora was from the Robert Street area of Mitchelstown, and was a mother to an 11-year-old boy and eight-year-old girl.

She was part of a group climbing Galtymore in fundraising events nationwide for Pieta House and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
