Adayar will not return to the scene of his career-defining Derby victory on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.
Top trainer Charlie Appleby was gearing the colt towards the Coronation Cup at the big summer event. A setback held up his training for the Group 1 race on June 3, which will now come too soon.
“Adayar, who was an intended runner [at Epsom], met with a minor setback in the respect that he was coughing for a few days so I eased off him for a week,” Appleby told godolphin.com. “In doing so, he did very well that week so I think we're going to be giving the Coronation Cup a miss as fitness wise I won't have him there ready in time. He will most likely head to the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
“Manboo will head towards the Coronation. He’s a horse we always mooted wanting to drop back in trip with to a mile and a half. He's done very well and I’m very pleased with him.”
Appleby chases a third win in the feature Cazoo Derby on the following day, after Masar set the ball rolling for his stable in 2018. His two contenders this year, Walk Of Stars (16-1) and Nahanni (25-1) are outsiders, as Desert Crown heads the market on the back of his impressive Dante performance.
“Walk Of Stars has definitely come on mentally for his run at Lingfield [when second in the Derby Trial],” Appleby added. “He's a big playboy still but we're definitely pleased with what we've seen since his run.
“Nahanni has not been seen since the Blue Riband at Epsom but physically I couldn't be more pleased with how he's done. Work-wise, he's clicking up the gears each week and we're looking forward to them going to Epsom.”
The Queen was due to be represented by Reach For The Moon in the race on the special weekend. However the horse, due to make his seasonal reappearance at Sandown on Thursday, encountered an interrupted preparation and was ruled out of the Classic.
Yet to win the big race, the Queen is expected to attend the racing fixture alongside members of the Royal Family.
