Charley Webb shares news on TV return before celebrating ITV Emmerdale star's birthday

Charley Webb shared an exciting update on her acting career after discussing a potential return to TV early last month. The actress is best known for portraying Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale for a whopping 19 years.

She hadn't been seen in the ITV soap since the start of 2021 leading to speculation she had quit the show. However, she later confirmed that she'd officially waved goodbye to her feisty character much earlier than people realised.

In January she said that she left to have her son Ace, now two-and-a-half, and only returned for 10 weeks to complete a storyline which saw Debbie involved in an affair with Al Chapman while he was engaged to Priya Sharma.

During a Q&A on her Instagram before celebrating her birthday at the end of February Charley, 34, was asked: "Are you going to go back into acting? We miss you on our screens."

The mum-of-three replied: "When the right thing comes to me, I'll be back," she said alongside a photo of her posing in front of the camera in her laptop. "Can't wait," she added.

And it appears she's already getting to work. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Charley said she was "excited" back filming and shared a picture of herself at a costume fitting. Sharing a mirror selfie with her looking pleased for herself, the former soap star wrote: "Costume fitting today for my new job. I'm excited for the next 2 projects I'm filming over the summer and to get back on screen."

Charley's big brother Jamie Lomas, who fans will know for his role as Warren Fox in Hollyoaks, was among the first to comment, writing: "Yes babe," while friend and former Emmerdale co-star Isabel Hodgins posted a star emoji and said: "So exciting."

Michelle Keegan also shared her support by writing: "Yaaaaay! Go on gurl," and former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldsley simply commented: " Wahoooooo," alongside a string of flame emojis.

And fans were just as eager to congratulate Charley and share in her excitement.

"Looking beautiful as always Charley and hope were going to see you very soon back on screen were you belong I do miss you on the telly Charley," @ alanmercury007 said.

"Awwws good luck. You're such a star," @ deb4964 added.

Charley's good news came on the same day she celebrated her former co-star and best pal Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle in the ITV soap and just lives seconds away from her and her husband, Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe).

Sharing a selfie alongside birthday girl Emma, who turned 47 on March 31 and was rocking a 'birthday queen' headband, Charley said: "Tea and cake for the birthday girl."

It comes after Charley made Emmerdale fans 'sad' when she enjoyed a reunion with her former on-screen family. The mum-of-three took to Instagram to share some snaps from what she called a 'mum and dad' night out with hubby Matthew.

The pair, who have been married for four years and together for 15, spent the evening with Emma and Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle in the soap. Charley also posed for snaps alongside her on-screen dad Jeff Hordley, aka Cain Dingle, and his wife and their Emmerdale co-star Zoë Henry, best known for playing Rhona Goskirk in the soap.
