Charges to be upgraded after man dies following assault

Charges against a Queensland man are set to be upgraded after a 45-year-old died in hospital following an alleged assault.

Police said the 45-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after a November 22 attack at a Chinchilla property, west of Brisbane.

He was involved in an altercation after 9pm with a 21-year-old man known to him, police allege.

The 45-year-old was allegedly struck in the head and fell to the ground.

He was flown to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital however he died on Monday, almost a week later.

The 21-year-old man was initially charged with grievous bodily harm.

Police said the man would have his charges upgraded to unlawful striking causing death when he appears in Dalby Magistrates Court on January 23.

The 21-year-old remains in custody.
