Chargers Lose DC Renaldo Hill to Dolphins, per Report

Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill is headed to the Dolphins to become their defensive pass-game coordinator, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

The former NFL player spent two seasons as defensive coordinator for the Chargers.

Hill will reunite with new Miami defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Hill worked as the defensive backs coach from 2019–20 for the Broncos when Fangio was Denver’s head coach. Coincidentally, Chargers coach Brandon Staley worked as the Broncos’ outside linebackers coach in 2019.

The Chargers ranked 21st in the NFL at 22.6 points allowed per game and 20th in the league with 346.1 yards allowed per game during the 2022 season. The Dolphins ranked 24th in the league with 23.5 points allowed per game and 18th with 337.8 yards allowed per game.

To replace Hill, the Chargers are expected to promote defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley to the defensive coordinator position, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Ansley has been with the team since the 2021 season.
