A man has had his charge upgraded to manslaughter after a 75-year-old died two weeks after an alleged assault on a Gold Coast tourist strip.

The elderly man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition following the altercation on Marine Parade at about 6pm on October 6.

The 75-year-old was struck, which caused him to fall and hit his head, Queensland Police said.

The man died from his injuries on Thursday.
