Chappell Roan told a photographer at the 2024 MTV VMAs to “shut the fuck up”. She’s in her no-bullshit era, and I’m here for this.
After she arrived on the red carpet (looking like a medieval queen, might I add), she had a bit of an argument. While an assistant was adjusting her dress, a photographer was heard telling somebody nearby to “shut the fuck up”.
The “HOT TO GO!” singer immediately stepped in and pointed a finger towards the culprit.
“You shut the fuck up,” she declared. The crowd started cheering as she added, “Don’t! Not me, bitch.”
A fan can be heard encouraging Roan, saying: “Tell ‘em, girl!”
The 2024 VMAs is the first Roan has ever attended, and she’s set to perform. The singer is also nominated for four awards, including Best New Artist.
Why did Chappell Roan yell at a photographer at the 2024 VMAs?
Later in the evening, Chappell Roan told an Entertainment Tonight reporter she found the red carpet “horrifying”.
“This is quite overwhelming and quite scary, I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying,” she said.
“I yelled back. I yelled back! You don’t get to yell at me like that.”
A bunch of people on X (formerly known as Twitter) supported the pop star.
“Love her. People hate a strong woman. I think she’s such a brilliant example for her generation, always showing that it’s okay to stand up for yourself and hold firm on your boundaries!!!” one person wrote.
“I love how assertive she is, doesn’t take anyone’s shit,” another added.
“I think the world would be a better place if more people weren’t afraid to tell someone to stfu when needed,” a third said.
Seeing as Roan has been vocal over the past month about needing to set boundaries, it’s good to see she’s sticking to it.
