'Chaotic' parking outside a Nottingham school has become a cause for concern for parents and nearby residents. Those with children attending Hollygirt School in Mapperley say that both drop-off and pick-up times were manic due to the number of cars parked on either side of narrow roads such as Cranmer Street and Villa Road.
"It's crazy, the traffic coming through is constant, it's manic," said dad James Wood. "It's not a massive issue but it's an issue for the cars because everyone starts getting impatient."
The 49-year-old IT project manager continued: "I walk, we moved from Australia recently and part of the reason we chose this school was because it was within walking distance. I came down the other morning and I was like 'woah', it was so busy.

"The road is narrow already so when cars are on both sides it causes all kinds of problems. They can't give way." Mr James added: "A crossing would make perfect sense, it's a busy spot. Maybe the roads should be fixed too."
Hollygirt's headteacher said the school had been working with police and Nottingham City Council to resolve parking issues. When Nottinghamshire Live approached one parent who had parked on double yellows he said: "I've got bigger issues to worry about than that."
Other residents like George Bukkos called on parents to park responsibly. The 41-year-old, who lives near Cranmer Street's junction with Mapperley Road, said: "Some cars block the way, it's dangerous. Some you see parking on the double yellows so there's no clear view, and the school doesn't do anything. Parents should understand that it's not their private parking."
Dr Helen Barsham, head of Hollygirt School, said: "Like many schools, we are aware that parking during school pick-up and drop-off times can be frustrating for both parents and local residents. We ask and expect that all parents in the Hollygirt community are considerate of our neighbours during these busy times and encourage use of our shared school bus service, which covers a wide area of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
"The school has been proactive in liaising with our neighbours, our local PSCO and the Traffic Management team at Nottingham City Council to resolve parking issues as they arise."
