Channing Tatum shares concerning health update after undergoing surgery: 'This one is gonna be hard'

Channing Tatum has revealed he has undergone surgery after suffering a shoulder separation, sharing a candid photo from his hospital bed as he prepares for a tough recovery.

The Hollywood star, 45, posted a black-and-white image on Instagram on Wednesday showing himself in a hospital gown, admitting the road ahead would be “hard”.

He also shared X-rays of his shoulder on his Stories, taken before and after the operation, which showed a screw inserted into his clavicle to stabilise the joint.

Alongside the images, he wrote: “Separated shoulder” and “Screwed shoulder. Yay”.

A shoulder separation occurs when trauma — often from a fall or impact — damages the ligaments around the acromioclavicular joint, where the collarbone meets the shoulder blade, causing the bones to shift out of place.

Captioning the hospital snap, Tatum wrote: “Just another day. Another challenge. This one is gonna be hard. But whatever. Let's get it in.”

The injury comes after another setback during filming on the Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday in London last year.

Speaking to Variety in September, Tatum revealed he had hurt his leg on set and was forced to sit out several stunts, including a major fight scene with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Reprising his role as Gambit, Tatum said the recovery process would involve months of intensive physical therapy.

“It's not about the pain I feel in the moment,” he explained. “It's knowing I can't take this back. And now I know what the next six months of my life will be like.”

He added: “I just hate getting old. In my mind, I'm literally still 30 years old — 26, if I'm honest.”

Messages of support quickly flooded in from fans and famous friends.

NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. commented: “Prayers up solider [sic]!!!!” while Jamie Foxx wrote: “Prayers up let's go champ.”

Sons of Anarchy actor Emilio Rivera added: “Get Better Soon,” and LaKeith Stanfield left a bicep emoji and red heart.

Tatum’s girlfriend, Australian model Inka Williams, also showed her support, writing: “Big bad wolf we got disss.”

The pair went public with their relationship in March, after sparking rumours earlier in the year when they were seen leaving the CAA pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles together.

It came months after Tatum split from his former fiancée Zoë Kravitz in October 2024.
