In the new Channel 4 show, The Simpler Life, 24 strangers from across the UK come together to leave the modern world behind and embrace a much more simplistic lifestyle. The strangers will all live together on a farm and have to fend for themselves with limited trips to the shops and no electricity or modern technology.
Beginning tonight, March, 22, the first episode shows the strangers embarking on their new life. They are not allowed to take in any personal belongings and are given a very limited food cupboard to live from which included canned potatoes, chickpeas, and eggs.
Two contestants in particular struggled to adapt to this new life and Toby dramatically quit the process after walking six hours across fields and villages to reach a train station to go home. Toby began to struggle when Penny became upset after clashing with other members in the community in the shop over what to buy.

He said: "I struggle sometimes with picking up other people's negative energy, it can wear me out. If I need to get away from it I come up to my room however that is deemed as not being particularly community-minded but it's the only place I can get where I can get some me-time."
Toby then disappeared from the show, with none of the other contestants able to find him despite looking around the farm, and dramatically made his exit. It was revealed at the end of the show that Toby walked for six hours across fields and through villages to a train station and is now back home with his cats.
Elsewhere in the show Penny became emotional and clashed with Andrew when they were unable to afford the chicken in the local shop. Penny left the shop in tears and back at the farm said she wanted to quit the show.
While crying and being comforted by other members of the community she said: "I think I want to go home, I want to go home. Things got really heated, it got really tense."
Penny ultimately decided to stay in the process and you can see what she gets up to on the next episode which is tomorrow, March, 23rd at 9pm.
