Channel 5 The Holiday viewers stunned by Jill Halfpenny in new drama

Jill Halfpenny has returned to screens this week with a brand new drama.

Following on from her success in Channel 5's The Drowning last year, she's returned to the network for a completely different mini-series.

The former Byker Grove and soap star is appearing in The Holiday as Kate, a woman whose dream family holiday quickly becomes a nightmare.

Shortly after arriving with her family in Malta, she discovers that her husband is having an affair with one of her best friends - who are also enjoying a holiday with them.

After finding secret messages on her husband's phone, Kate finds herself suspicious of his ever move but seemingly believes Rowan to be the other woman.

However, it looks as though the series is set to take a dramatic turn with a teaser clip played out at the end of the first episode showing the group of friends trying to escape a fire before Kate sees one of her friend's sons bleeding and lifeless on the rocks below.

Throughout the first episode though, fans were distracted by Jill, 46, and her ageless beauty.

"Jill you look stunning as ever @halfpennyjill#TheHoliday," one tweeted.

Another said: "Jill Halfpenny has hardly changed at all. She looks gorgeous."

"My teenage crush on tv," a third added.

The four-part series is based on the best-selling book, The Holiday by T.M. Logan.

The Holiday began on Tuesday night (March 1) and continues across the three following consecutive nights, with the finale airing on Friday, March 4, at 9pm.

Speaking to Digital Spy about what attracted her to the role, Jill said: "It was another thriller.

"I really enjoyed doing The Drowning with Channel 5, and I knew [it] would be a great team of people.

"It's slightly heightened reality and it can be quite fun to play with that.

"And I saw the cast as well, and knew it would be great."
