Channel 4 set to cancel hit show after 'mistakes made in filming'

Channel 4 may axe a hit reality TV show after "mistakes were made during production".

Deadline reports that the channel's boss Ian Kaz was said to be "50/50" about whether Rise and Fall would be renewed soon. The series was "expensive to produce" and "fell well short of The Traitors", according to reports, though many viewers quickly became fans.

The programme suffered comparisons to BBC The Traitors, a smash hit for the Beeb, after its debut, according to Birmingham Live.

But the future of the series is now uncertain. At the time it was launched, Alf Lawrie, Head of Factual Entertainment at Channel 4, said: “Society is made up of the haves and the have nots, those who have power and those who don’t. In this fascinating new reality format, we’re going to see how power is gained, what happens when power is lost and how the quest for power can bring out the best or worst in people.

"We’re thrilled to be working with Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group on this exciting new series that promises to deliver entertainment and drama aplenty.”

Deadline's article added that sources close to Rise and Fall said "mistakes were made in production, including filming it on a fast-turnaround basis."
