Channel 4 Hobby Man: Edinburgh home-brewing club shares experience with Alex Brooker

An Edinburgh club had the honour of appearing on brand new television programme Hobby Man, teaching host Alex Brooker a thing or two about home-brewing.

Hobby Man is a new Channel 4 programme, following Alex Brooker as he takes a crash course in British pastimes, accompanied by a raft of famous faces. The co-hosts include comic, writer and actor Joe Wilkinson, TV personality Scarlett Moffatt, The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas and chef broadcaster Andi Oliver.

In the first episode, Alex visits Edinburgh to try out bird-watching, chess and the home-brewing of beer. Local club, Beers Without Beards, had the opportunity to show off their passion for creating different blends of the popular drink.

Beers Without Beards are a "group of women who like beers, meeting up in pubs, breweries and taprooms". The group spoke to Edinburgh Live earlier today about their experience on the programme.

A Beers Without Beards representative said: "It was very exciting for us to be on the show and to meet Alex and Scarlett.

"We were very happy to share our passion of beer and home brewing with them, even though Scarlett wasn’t really a beer drinker herself. We were very impressed by Scarlett openness to try different beers and very proud to help her find out what style she could like.

"We do hope we managed to convert her and to show that home brewing can be a fun hobby for everyone!

"It was a really relaxed atmosphere and we had a good time together. They are definitely both very welcome to come back as honorary Beers Without Beards members!"

The episode featuring Beers Without Beards will air on Friday, August 19 at 8pm on Channel 4.
