Fans of Grand Designs were in tears while watching last night's episode.
Host Kevin McCloud met with Rob and Kate who were trying to build a home with a budget of £350,000. Former farmer and floorboard engineer Rob, and his partner Kate, had been living in a white weatherboard-clad, prefabricated shack in a quiet corner of Kent.
It was built in 1948 by Rob’s grandfather on part of the family farm in the post-war housebuilding era. Kate explained that the home was riddled with asbestos and it was freezing due to lack of insulation.

The home was in need of a lick of paint and a lot of love. The couple had plans to replace their home with a far superior modern version.
But the plans meant a lot more to Rob and Kate as they revealed that it would help them to make their family feel complete. In an emotional scene, Rob explained how the couple had always struggled to have kids.
He said: "I've always wanted to build Kate a house - to see a smile on her face and how excited she gets, she's wonderful."
Kate added: "If it's important to him, it's important to me. Not being able to have children, so to be able to create this which is so much of us together, is different, but it's home."
Fans on Twitter became emotional as they shared that they were in tears. One user said: "Probably the most emotional Grand Designs I’ve ever watched. Hope Kate and Rob have a life time of happiness in their new home #GrandDesigns."
Another user said: "Oh GOD!!! Grand Designs has got me right in the heart strings tonight."
Meanwhile, Helen said: "Loved #GrandDesigns tonight. Such a caring genuine couple, a considered plan, completed in the short planned timescale and an ingenious construction method by a great company."
