Famous for letting the whole country into their living rooms, the stars of Gogglebox live, quite literally, in the public eye.
And participant on the show, Georgia Bell, has given an insight into her preparation for labour as she appeared on the Channel 4 program. The Manchester Evening News reported that the 21-year-old was back on screens on Friday night for the last episode of the Bafta-award-winning series.
Georgia, who appears on the show alongside her best friend, Abbie Lynn, 20, is expecting her first child, a son, with her boyfriend Josh in July. While she hasn't spoken too much about her impending arrival, she did share with Abbie that her midwife had told her it was time to pack her hospital bag. "Went to the midwife the other day and she said, ‘oh you should start packing your hospital bag'," Georgia said, to which Abbie replied: "You’re joking?" Revealing how she took the recommendation, Georgia continued: "I went 'you what?', she went, 'you know, your little hospital bag', and I said 'what the hell do I put in that?'."
She then asked Abbie: "What do you put in a hospital bag?," before explaining how the midwife had suggested including taking snacks for her and her boyfriend in case they got hungry. "She gave us a good few ideas, but the one thing she kept stressing about was snacks," Georgia said. Gogglebox viewers were upset that Lee and Jenny were missing from the final episode - you can read more about that here.
"I was like ‘snacks? As in food?’, she said, ‘yes, for you and Josh’, and I was like ‘why?'." Abbie then tried to offer Georgia some advice. "Really? No, you know what there’s a little café in the hospital that you’re going to and they do some alright food in there," she replied. "My dad once had a cheesy bean jacket potato there, so if Josh gets hungry he can go down to the café and get something there."
Georgia then said: "What if he misses the birth of his son, and he’s sat there eating a jacket potato?", to which Abi replied: “Oh God, yeah…that’s the risk you’ve gotta take!"
Later in the episode the pair caused a bit of offence with a comment about the 'olden days'. Friday's episode saw the Goggleboxers being shown a Top of the Pops segment from 1992. They were shown a performance from Boney M on the popular music show, which broadcast weekly between 1964 and 2006.
Watching the clip, Abbie said: "I’ve never seen this before," to which Georgia remarked: "It looks ancient!’ Abbie then continued: "I think it’s out of the olden days." And it didn't end there when Abbie ended up adding: "I feel like we need to be watching this in black and white."
It's fair to say the comment didn't go down with Gogglebox viewers of a certain age. @iced_mochaaa tweeted: "The geordie girls are 21 and 22 and they just said 90s top of the pop was ancient?? [crying emoji] #gogglebox." @Stepharrnee laughed and cried in equal measure: "'TOTP looks ancient, like the olden days.' 1992."
@jennorwood said: "Saying 1992 TOTP is "ancient" and "out of the olden days". Oh God, help me. I'm seriously ancient then. Good old Gogglebox." @JackOfAllMLitt wrote: "Never felt older than the 30 seconds these two were on about TOTP." @SteffanBow shared: "90s baby thank you @abbieandgeorgia for making me feel so old."
@Gaunty1974 reacted: "...I nearly fell off my chair. 1992 was just like yesterday. Imagine if they'd seen the 80s shows." @StevenKelly82 added: "#TOTP1992 'Out of the olden days'…. Bl**dy cheek #Gogglebox."
