Channel 4 A Place in the Sun host forced to apologise as buyers brutally shun home

The host of A Place in the Sun apologised to buyers after they brutally rejected her choices.

Donna and Graeme, who have been married for 21 years, were looking for the perfect holiday home with a budget of £75,000. Channel 4's property expert, Leah Charles-King, was on hand to help them look around five properties in Spain’s Orihuela Costa.

The couple hoped for a two or three-bed apartment that felt light and airy. They wanted "a bit of everything" as they listed off a couple of bathrooms and a pool.

Donna, a civil servant, said "We'd like a bit of everything which we know we can't have but we'd like to tick as much off our list as we can. We're going to compromise and we're quite excited to see what you can find us." Leah said: "It will be a bit of a tall order."

Graeme, who works in finance, delivered some good news for the host, as he added: "If you can tick as many boxes as you can and Donna doesn't have to compromise then we can go to £85,000. No questions."

Arriving at their first property, the couple were apprehensive at viewing a home with a price tag of £95,000. Despite the owner's willingness to drop to an affordable £83,000, Donna and Graeme shared a brief look of concern with one another.

The two bedroom apartment boasted a communal pool, rooftop solarium and sea views but as soon as they stepped inside Donna and Graeme insisted they didn’t like much about the property. Slamming the décor, Graeme said: "We may have stepped back in time a little bit, maybe as far back as the 70s."

Leah said: "It does come fully furnished. Would you want to keep the furniture?" She was met with a resounding "no" as Graeme said: "Not one piece of it."

Leah was shocked with his response as she said: "Tell me what you really think! Don’t hold back!"

Fans on Twitter were just as stunned too as they bashed their buyers for their negative attitudes. One user said: "Why can’t they just look at the property without being rude and sniggering about someone else’s stuff. I’d tell em to sling their hook. #aplaceinthesun."

Albi said: "75 grand budget (which Leah helpfully ignored) and they’re moaning about someone else’s furniture. #aplaceinthesun." A third added: "Stop moaning, the only work you need to do is get rid of the furniture. #aplaceinthesun."

The search only seemed to get more difficult as on the third property the couple stopped the search after the first room. Leah asked: "Do you want to see the rest of this property?" Graeme replied: "No, I don't think it would give us any different vibe in any other room."

When they left the home, which was a ground floor two-bed apartment, Leah said: "Well that's a shame. If they aren't feeling it then they aren't feeling it."

She added: "Look guys, I'm sorry you're disappointed with that one. I was genuinely hoping you'd like it."
