Channel 4 A Place in the Sun fans slam £280k 'prison cell' apartment

A Place in the Sun host Jasmine Harman struggled to win over her buyers during Thursday's episode.

Property expert Jasmine was on hand to help Yvette and Agata find their forever home in Portugal's Algarve. The married couple decided to ditch the UK for sunnier climes, and were looking to buy around the fishing village of Alvor.

With a maximum budget of £320,000, the pair wanted a three-bedroom house, but things did not get off to the best start.

Property number one was quickly ruled out, however the second home piqued the couple's interests. On the market for just over £275,000, the three-bedroom house had a massive light and airy living space, with a terrace, and a separate modern kitchen.

While Yvette and Agata did not have high hopes from the outside, once indoors they were very impressed by the spaciousness and the natural light. They did however say they'd prefer to be nearer the "hustle and bustle".

Clearly listening to their wishes, Laura then took them to a third property which was much closer to bars, shops and restaurants. Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac "two minutes" from the strip, the three-bedroom cottage was on the market for just under £280,000.

The couple were intrigued by the outside appearance, and said they were an "eight out of 10" in terms of excitement. However, once indoors the vibe quickly changed.

Agata said: "It's very dark, I don't like it", while Yvette said: "It's very small, are you feeling that? It's very, very small". They both said it was no good, especially when compared with the previous home.

Some fans watching at home were clearly in agreement. Taking to Twitter, Lydia said: "Like a prison cell, there are literally bars on the walls", while Tony said: "Looks small and compact, don't like the stairs!" and Gemma said: "It's a no from me".

However other viewers thought the place was "lovely". Caroline said: "This fisherman’s house is right up my street! Lovely!" and Rob said: "Lovely, and plenty of room for a couple".

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4 and All 4
