Channel 4 A Place in the Sun buyers walk out of 'gloomy' apartment

A Place in the Sun host Leah Charles-King had a challenge on her hands during Wednesday's episode on Channel 4.

Retired teachers Carrie and Steve were searching for their ideal holiday home in the town of Islantilla on Spain’s Costa de la Luz. With a budget of £110,000, they wanted somewhere with at least two bedrooms, plenty of outdoor space, and, ideally, a pool.

They were also hoping to find somewhere with heating for the winter months, and Steve wanted somewhere close to a golf course.

Property expert Leah had five properties to show the couple, but things did not get off to a great start. Leah's first offering, a two-bedroom townhouse on the market for just under £102,000, was on a golf complex.

Despite having plenty of outdoor space, and a communal pool, Carrie and Steve said the inside was too "poky" and they let Leah know they were hoping for somewhere more spacious.

Property number two was a two-bedroom apartment. On the market for just over £116,000, it had a spacious living area, two bathrooms, and a log fireplace. It also had a balcony, roof terrace and private parking.

While it had considerably more space than the first property they had seen, Carrie and Steve were not won over. Before they had viewed all of the rooms, a nervous Leah said: "I'm getting the feeling this isn't working out".

Carrie admitted she didn't feel it was a "lovely place", adding "I just think it's a bit gloomy". Leah asked: "Shall we just call it quits here then?"

Steve quickly replied: “No, I think we can call it a day.”
