Changing Rooms fans in hysterics as couple ‘upset’ after room gets ‘Mr Blobby’ makeover

Changing Rooms fans were left in hysterics on Wednesday night as the home makeover show returned to Channel 4 for another season.

The show returned without co-host Anna Richardson after it was rebooted two years ago following 17 years off air with interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen back to host.

However, Channel 4 viewers were left floored after the team debuted a 'Mr Blobby' makeover on the show, which saw homeowners Eddie and Lotta surprised with a pink and yellow lounge and dining room.

Designer Whinnie Williams described her work as "granny chic" with a "sweet and sugary spin", but as one of the owners appeared to tear up, many suspecting they could be more upset than moved by the décor.

Taking to Twitter following the big reveal, one fan wrote: “Jeez, she's crying because she's so upset loooool,” as another echoed: “I would cry too, hun.”

Another posted: “These people are too polite. I’m verbally abusing EVERYBODY! Even the camera man! Someone might even catch a right hook.”

A fellow fan wrote: “Sorry but the pink and yellow room? My 7 year old granddaughter could've done better.”

Fellow viewers even suggested the interior design could be better situated in the home of 80s TV character Mr Blobby, from Noel's House Party.

One viewer tweeted: "Mr Blobby would love those two 'Granny chic' rooms."

Agreeing, a second asked: "Is that Mr Blobby's home?!" as another added: "Mr Blobby’s house comes to mind! #changingrooms AWFUL."

Eddie and Lotta had entrusted their 1930s property in Tunbridge Wells to Changing Rooms' Whinnie Williams, who told the couple: "I really wanted to use nice pastel colours. It is a nod to the Art Deco era. It's granny chic."

"It is much more pink than we would have done." (C4)

Eddie told Whinnie he "really liked" his new pink sofa, with Lotta adding: "I don't feel like I'm in our room...in a good way."

But she added: "It is much more pink than we would have done."

At the end of the show, it was revealed the couple have since repainted their ceiling white.

Winnie is one of the new interior designers on the show this series, alongside newcomer Micaela Sharp, with carpenter and joiner Tibby Singh back to help bring the designers’ visions to life.

Channel 4 shared at the time of the series renewal: “The last series of Changing Rooms with Dulux saw colour return to homes across the UK with a variety of designs to inspire home decorators to be bold with their interior design choices.

“Amongst many things, the series featured a flamingo-themed party lounge, a cool Californian-inspired living room and a Bohemian-style, boutique bedroom.

“Now, more friends and neighbours are putting their trust in design aficionado LLB and the other designers to help makeover a room in each other’s homes.

“But these are no ordinary makeovers. Each Changing Rooms transformation is guaranteed to be creative, design led and, sometimes, unexpected.”
