Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has explained how he “changed everything” in training during the week to shock Liverpool.
The Yorkshire strugglers earned their first Premier League win at Anfield in more than 21 years with a dramatic 2-1 triumph on Saturday night.
Leeds went into the game in the relegation zone having taken just two points from their previous eight games. And a delighted Marsch readily admitted he ripped up his team’s usual preparations ahead of the game in the hope of changing their form.
“We did something differently,” he said. “I am not superstitious at all but I started changing everything. Now I don’t know what to keep or change back. It was a little bit of everything. Nobody wants to go through the same routine all the time.

“The guys are happy, there’s music in there (in the dressing room). I want them to enjoy the moment. We have to use this to launch ourselves.
“The ability for them in a very tough moment and an incredibly tough place to play against one of the best teams in the world, to come away with three points is important for all of them.”
Marsch added: “At 1-1 we talked that last week when it was close with Fulham that we were more waiting to lose than pushing to win. I think the best part was that you saw real resolve at 1-1.
“We needed (goalkeeper) Illan (Meslier) to make some big saves but the mentality to stay in the match and see if we could find a way to see if we could get three points was really strong. It showed belief.
“You could say if we could find a way to get the second or third goal we could have pushed the game a bit more, because in the first half I thought we were fantastic.
“(The win) was necessary to stop the bleeding. I’m delighted. We should never have been in this situation. We’ve been playing well and not getting the points. We need some urgency in our season, nobody wants to go down.”
