Change of scene just what Lynn needs: Ross

Sydney Thunder batter Alex Ross expects ex-teammate Chris Lynn to reap the rewards of a change in BBL franchises and return to his "scary" best this summer.

Between 2016 and 2019, Ross and Lynn played together at the Brisbane Heat, where the latter was twice named player of the tournament after signing on as a foundation player in 2011.

But after hitting some lukewarm form last summer, Lynn was overlooked for a new deal and signed with the Adelaide Strikers for his 12th campaign.

Lynn managed 41 runs in the Strikers' first game of the tournament on Wednesday night, considerably more than the 18 he averaged last campaign, as Adelaide thrashed last season's runners-up the Sydney Sixers.

The Thunder face the Strikers on Friday night and Ross predicts Lynn will again prove a handful for his rivals in the bowling attack.

"It looks like he's got his confidence back which is a little bit scary for everyone else in the competition," Ross told AAP.

"You just can't bowl your normal length to him that you'd get away with to a lot of batters. That makes him extremely dangerous.

"He's just got that inherent power."

Ross himself has played at the Strikers, Heat and Thunder since making his BBL debut in 2014 and said a similar change of scenery would work wonders for Lynn.

"It's just a little bit of reinvigoration, an opportunity to impress somewhere else," Ross said.

"I know that he loves Adelaide, he could be really damaging on that (Adelaide Oval) wicket with his long stroke.

"With those shorter boundaries, we saw someone bounce him yesterday and it still goes 20 or 30 rows back (into the crowd).

"He could be really good there and I'm sure he'll enjoy his time in Adelaide."

The Thunder needed until the last ball of Tuesday's tournament opener against the Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval to chase down the target of 123, but Ross said there was no cause for concern just yet.

"It was a difficult old wicket for both batting teams," he said.

"Some of the dismissals were a little bit unlucky too when you're just trying to score and get the team over the line.

"It was just a little bit of rustiness and nerves for that first game so we'll try get that out of the way and bring our best game to Showground Stadium."
