Change in test centres keeps CUET aspirants, parents on their toes, again

NEW DELHI: Common University Entrance Test (CUET) aspirants did not face any major problems on Tuesday, compared to the past few days. However, centre changes kept many candidates and their parents on their toes.

Exercising extreme caution, several students kept checking their admit card details. Some said they had also received calls from the National Testing Agency (NTA) that their centre had changed.

Laxmi, a parent who waited for her daughter while she wrote her exam at Delhi University, said she was allotted a new centre around 7pm on Monday. “It was at Dwarka initially but changed later. All six exams my daughter had to take were slotted for Tuesday,” said Laxmi, a resident of Shahdara.

Another parent, Pinku, said her daughter’s centre changed from Noida to DU. “We had read in the newspaper that people had faced a lot of problems due to change in the centres. So, we kept checking and came to know on Sunday night that the exam would take place in DU now,” said Pinku, who lives in Shakarpur.

Many parents said that NTA should have mentioned in the form how many photographs a student was required to carry along. Ritu Mishra, who had travelled from Dwarka, said, “Nowhere in the form is it mentioned that the photograph has to be the same as the one used in the application. I had that photo in my phone thankfully, but it was very stressful to run around finding a shop to get it printed.”

Many students whose exam was scheduled to take place in the evening learnt only after reaching the centre that they needed another admit card. “The guard told us that the form will have to be submitted after the exam, so my father hurriedly went and got it printed,” said Pooja, who had travelled from Kakrola in southwest Delhi.

However, keeping the teething problems aside, most students expressed satisfaction with their performance in the exam.

Ridhi Bhardwaj, a student of Delhi government school, said, “It is tougher than the CBSE exam, considering it is an all-India entrance test. But I had prepared well so I finished before the allotted time.”

Wednesday, July 20 is the last date of the first phase of CUET.
