Change in format would give Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma confidence: Sanjay Bangar

NEW DELHI: Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes that a change in format and their past success in ODIs could help Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma rediscover their form in the upcoming series against England and the Champions Trophy.

Both senior batters have struggled in recent outings, including the home Test series against New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, raising questions about their future in international cricket.

Kohli, in particular, was dismissed eight times to deliveries outside the off-stump in Australia, while Rohit endured a torrid time, managing just 31 runs in five innings before opting out of the final Test in Sydney.

"Both Virat and Rohit will go down as all-time great white-ball players. If you make a list, their names will certainly be there," Bangar, now Star Sports Network expert, said.

"A change in format and their past performances in ODIs should give them confidence."

Bangar also expressed curiosity about Rohit’s approach at the top of the order.

"It will be interesting to see how Rohit plays because he has had some low scores of late," he added.

The duo’s struggles continued in their much-anticipated return to domestic cricket, making the England series and the Champions Trophy crucial opportunities for them to find form again.
