After a four-year hiatus, Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2025 runway marked a magical return to the Grand Palais for an undeniably memorable show. The stunning venue has been the location of the French fashion house’s runway shows for decades, but recently underwent restoration, leading the brand to show elsewhere.
So special is this connection between brand and place, Chanel marked the symbolism of its reunion for Paris Fashion Week through a spreading of its wings beneath the glass roof of the Nave. To emphasise this, models traversed the catwalks and through a life-sized logo-adorned bird cage before Daisy And The Six star, Riley Keough closed out the show with a hypnotising rendition of ‘When Doves Cry’ as she swung from the aviary.
At the heart of this collection is the notion of flight, which translates into ethereal beauty in the form of chiffon capes, embroidered sheer shirt dresses, fluid trousers, sequinned and fringed jeans and trench coats with a multicoloured feather print.
The delicate movement and fluidity of each piece is a dreamy reminder of the lightness of flight.
“The collection is a tribute to women who freed themselves from the cumbersome gaze of society, just like Gabrielle Chanel,” the brand said. “This flight is dedicated to them.”
House codes—the Chanel suit and LBD, tweeds and jerseys, quilted bags and two-tone shoes—are revisited with a roaring ‘20s lens inspired by female pilots of the era “who spoke out and helped change mentalities”. As a result, we also see aviator jackets with Peter Pan collars, flight suits and tweed sets take to the runway.
