CHANDIGARH: With questions being raised over the role of AICC secretary Vivek Bansal, the polling agent for Congress nominee Ajay Maken, a three member team of AICC on Tuesday submitted a report related to circumstances which led to Maken’s defeat in in the recent Rajya Sabha election of Haryana.
Sources informed the report has been jointly prepared by Congress observers Shakti Singh and Rajiv Shukla, the representatives of AICC, and Congress nominee Maken.
The report has a special mention about the cross vote as well as the cancelled vote. Rajya Sabha member Deepender Hooda said the team submitted the report on Monday evening and now it was up to the AICC to take the final call.
It may be recalled that one canceled vote had led to Maken’s defeat. He had lost to independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma, son of former Congress leader Venod Sharma and brother of Jessica Lal murder convict Manu ssharma. Kartikeya had won on the basis of calculation of electoral votes formula and second preference vote of BJP had helped him win the election.
Sources said the report concentrated on the cancelled vote and whether it was a deliberate move to help Kartikeya or was inadvertent. Besides, it has also commented on the role of Vivek Bansal, the AICC incharge for Haryana who was election agent. Voting was held on June 10 and election results were declared during the wee hours of June 11.
