Chandigarh Housing Board demolishes 4 illegal structures in Ram Darbar

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) demolished four illegal structures in Ram Darbar on Friday. A senior CHB official said in three cases, there were encroachments on public land and in the fourth case, an additional storey was constructed.

CHB is now computing the demolition cost to be recovered from the allottees and in case of its non-payment their allotments may be cancelled, he added.

The CHB enforcement squad has been making daily inspections in all the sectors to identify fresh violations and alternations and issuing on-the-spot challans with directions to immediately stop further construction and remove the earlier ones. After challans, sites are re-inspected. The photographs are also taken. If further construction is stopped and the allottee starts removing the violations, then the CHB waits for three days before taking up the demolition work. However, if construction is not stopped, demolition is carried out immediately. Cost in both the cases is recovered from the allottee.

CHB's CEO Yashpal Garg said though precautions were being taken during the demolition, there was a possibility that adjoining structures may get damaged. "In such an event, the allottee is responsible for damage to own and adjoining units," he added.
