CHANDIGARH: Using fake WhatsApp profile of director principal of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, Prof Jasbinder Kaur, an anonymous person has been asking for gift cards.
“Yesterday again an anonymous person sent WhatsApp messages from a different mobile number to many persons impersonating me,” said Dr Jasbinder.
The GMCH has made many complaints to the cyber police since March. “Complaints had been sent by the director principal to the DGP and cyber cell since March. But the messages did not stop,” said the director principal. She said, “First it was sent to the administrative staff and now to the doctors and faculty. Two were almost at the point of getting duped. But called me to confirm. ”
Recently, the UT police have registered FIR against unknown persons for allegedly creating fake profile with display picture of the director general of police (DGP) Praveer Ranjan and sending demand or gift cards from Amazon. Previously also, using the same modus operandi, WhatsApp message was sent to former dean of PGI, Prof Amod Gupta using a fake profile display picture of the director PGI, Prof Vivek Lal.
”Earlier also, the same fake messages were sent to many persons pretending to be from Dr Jasbinder. The matter was reported to police in writing but again the same thing occurred. All faculty/ staff and acquaintances of Dr Jasbinder have been kept abreast for not responding to such messages,” said an official in the GMCH 32.
The college has prepared a list of some of the recipients of such messages and circulated to alert others.
